Tributes

Jude Chukwuma Iloenyosi

I received the news of his death with shock, it was like an iroko that fell. Unknown to baba, he inspired a lot of us as young men in the 80's to wear very good suits. Infact, I personally didn't like pin-stripped suits until I saw it on him, I made sure I got one for myself, and the exact navy blue colour I saw on him with the white shirt, red tie and black lace-up shoes to match on my first trip to London in 1985. I never met him but admired him greatly from a distance. He was a man of style. Olori omoba Ijebu's shoes will be hard to fill. He left an indelible mark in the finance sector. He was very dedicated to his ancestral home, tradition and culture and Ijebu Christians too. He was not just the right-hand man of His Royal Highness, the Awujale of Ijebu land, but was the right hand of his HRH. Ijebu land, Ogun state, the banking industry and Nigeria will greatly miss this man of style. I pray that God gives his immediate and larger family the fortitude to bear his home call. He is now back to his mum, whom we are told he adored so much. God gives and He takes, glory be to God. And may the soul of Otunba Subomi Michael Balogun, the Olori omoba Ijebu rest in peace. Amen.

MARY OMONMHENLE

I am saddened by the news of your passing, but I am also grateful for the time I had to work under your leadership. You have left a remarkable legacy on both the company and the people whose lives you have touched. Your unwavering dedication and passion for your work have inspired not only me, but everyone in the team. Your integrity, professionalism, and kindness have earned you the respect and admiration of everyone who knows you. You have been more than just a boss to us; you have been a mentor, a friend, father, and a role model. Your vision and guidance will continue to shape the group's future for years to come. You have provided us with a solid foundation upon which we can build and grow, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Your passing is a great loss to all of us, but we take comfort in knowing that you have lived a life well-lived. Your impact will be felt for generations, and we are all better for having known you. Rest in peace, Otunba, You will be forever remembered and deeply missed. Sincerely, Mary Omonmhenle

I grew up knowing Otunba Subomi Balogun from my Mother's lips (Late Mrs Sherifat Adebimpe Oluwafunmilayo Ekun) who was friends with Chief (Mrs) Ronke Atere. As I grew up and learned more, I became intrigued with how he etched his name forever in the annals of the Nigerian financial services industry. His story of doggedness, resilience, determination and courage continues to inspire millions across the globe. I also quickly became acquainted with his philanthropic activities and his commitment to the Christian faith, resulting in the title of Asiwaju of Ijebu Christians. Highly respected and revered, his professionalism, work ethics and penchant for excellence can still be felt in FCMB long after he left the helms of affairs. He will be deeply missed and I can only pray that God's grace will be available to help the family bear this immense loss. Sleep on Sir, in the Bossom of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
